Who Sleeps Here

Though this isn't actually anyone's bed it still seems to speak to the level of poverty in Trinidad. Although official numbers have unemployment at just under 11%, figures from non-governmental organisations on the ground estimate that 30% of the population lives below the poverty level.

According to the most recent figures I could find (World Bank Report No. 14382-TR), the poverty level is TT$6.60 per person per day or TT$2,420 per person per year. US$1 is worth TT$6.30.

So essentially, almost 400,000 people in Trinidad survive on less than US$400 per year.

It's really amazing what some people take for granted. It's not until you see images like this that you realize how fortunte some of us are.
