Breaking Waves

Stonehaven Bay (Black Rock), is one of the more popular bathing spots on Tobago's north coast, backed by the Grafton Beach Resort. The reason for the moniker is immediately apparent, numerous rock outcroppings dot the beach forming several interesting coastal features. Even the sand is streaked with black. Quite unlike the pristine, powdery whiteness of Pigeon Point and other coral-based beaches on the south-eastern end.

The beach offers many lovely photo opportunities, from picturesque landscapes to dramatic confrontations between surf and rock. Just beware the sunbathing tourists, who may think you are voyeuristically training your camera lens on their lotion-slathered bodies.

This photo was taken among the outcroppings at the south end of the beach.
