Through The Lens, Trinidad & Tobago

Sandy Point

Sandy Point

Sandy Point is the southwestern-most point of Tobago, and thus the closest point to Trinidad. There's a couple hotels on the point, Tropikist and Sandy Point Beach Resort. These are some of the closest hotels to the airport. In fact planes landing at Crown Point Airport pass almost directly over the Sandy Point Resort.

The beach here isn't award-winningly impressive. In fact it suffers quite badly from erosion. This has resulted in the construction of groynes to limit the loss of sand. Yes, those are groynes in the photo, not jetties.

This photo is taken from Fort Milford. There used to be stairs next to the fort that lead down to the beach in the foreground but they've been eroded away and fallen into the sea.
