Coconut Dreams
March 30, 2004
You only get one sunrise and one sunset a day and you only get so many days on the planet. A good photographer does the math and doesn't waste either.
- Galen Rowell, quoted from Magic Moments by Thom Hogan, noted outdoor photographer and Nikon expert.
Over the past few days conditions have been favourable for lovely sunset photos. Thin layers of stratus or stratocumulus clouds in the late afternoon sky are always a sign that it's a good idea to keep your camera handy around sunset time.
Unless I actually want the sun in the frame, I prefer waiting about 10 to 15 minutes after the sun has slipped below the horizon. The sky becomes a palette of lovely, soft hues of pinks and magentas and reds. Work quickly though, because this only lasts a few minutes before it's dark.
