Tower on the Mount

Tower on the Mount

Nestled in the foothills of the Northern Range is a monastery of the Bernadine Monks, founded in 1912. This is the tower of the chapel building with the late afternoon sun hitting the western face.

In addition to the chapel, the complex includes a seminary, rehabilitation house and other facilities. It's an interesting little place, seemingly removed from the everyday goings-on of the country and certainly deserving of more exploration than the couple hours I spent there today.

Plus, at just about 800 feet up, and surrounded by forested hills, there are some amazing views of the country, although today was a bit too hazy for anything really spectacular. It's definitely someplace I'll be returning to in the future.

Interesting, because in Italy when I think of a monastery I imagine some old building from the middle age. And here you have a monastery, that is a modern building...
