Old Fire Brigade Station

The old fire station is an excellent example of what can be done to preserve our historic buildings. Originally built in 1896-97, the building underwent major renovations and refurbishment in 1999-2000 and is now part of the National Library Complex.

There is an old story that back in the 1960's the building was condemned however when the demolition crew went to work, their tools bounced off the solid stonework and the building was left untouched.
