Abandoned

Another look at the abandoned house on Oxford Street that I first posted a few days ago. I don't know what it is that draws me to these old, deserted houses. They just seem to have so much more character than the boring concrete squares that pass for architecture nowadays.

I've found that my favourite time to shoot these types of buildings is on those overcast days when the light is even, but somewhat dull.

Unrelatedly, while I was shooting this house, an idler passing in the street shouted out that this was his house, and that I needed permission to take pictures of it. Not wishing to argue with ignorance, I left the scene and returned later to complete my shooting.

I will always remember such houses.... the ones falling to ruin in the midst of Port of Spain. The architecture not necessarily lost as some new houses built in the latter years tried to recreate the jalousies and fancy wood work, etc. .

As I used to live on Belmont Circular Road very close to hospital those little houses I was surrounded by such little houses and they have always captured my fancy. It is one of the many fond memories of my stay in Trinidad and Tobago. I guess these little houses and especially the ones seemingly crumbling away to nothing have a story to tell and we will never know them. I lived in one of the Doctor's residences which had been subsequently been divided into 2 apartments. Located such that we could enjoy jouvert from the gate.... with a lime tree, avocado tree..... just minutes from the Savannah and Museum.... and not far from my favourite shopping area..... Charlotte Street.......

I am so glad that you are documenting such scenes… for I assume that there will be less and less of such buildings…
